RÜCKBLICK – FILM AUF FILM: HRVOJE SPUDIĆ
Am Wochenende vom 13.-14. September durften wir den kroatischen Künstler Hrvoje Spudić in Köln begrüßen. In einem zweitägigen Workshop im Kulturbunker Köln-Mülheim haben wir die Welt des Optical Sound und dessen Verbindung zum analogen 16mm-Film erkundet. Teil des Workshops war die Demonstration eines selbstgebauten Geräts, das optischen Ton direkt auf 16mm-Film aufzeichnen kann.
Die Workshop-Ergebnisse sind hier zu sehen/hören.
Parallel zu dem Workshop haben wir im Kulturbunker Spudićs Installation Rotoprojektor 2 ausgestellt. Im Zuge der Vernissage der Ausstellung präsentierte er außerdem eine Sound-Performance, die auf der DIY-Reproduktion von optischem Ton mit analogem Film basierte.

OJOBOCA ist ein in Berlin ansässiges Künstler:innen-Duo, bestehend aus Anja Dornieden und Juan David González Monroy. Ihre Arbeit basiert auf der Erforschung des Kinos als soziales Ritual und als Instrument zur Schaffung kollektiver Erfahrungen. Sie bezeichnen ihre Praxis als „Orrorismus“, den sie als simulierte Methode der inneren und äußeren Transformation definieren. Seit 2010 hat OJOBOCA eine Reihe von Experimentalfilmen, Installationen und Performances geschaffen, die weltweit auf Filmfestivals und in Kunststätten gezeigt wurden, darunter im Museum of the Moving Image, im ICA London, im Anthology Film Archives, auf der Berlinale, dem International Film Festival Rotterdam und dem New York Film Festival. Ihre Arbeit ist auch für ihren innovativen Einsatz analoger Filmtechniken bekannt, die sie als Mitglieder des von Künstler*innen betriebenen LaborBerlin weiterentwickeln.
Am Freitag (07.11.) um 20:30 Uhr präsentiert OJOBOCA im Filmhaus Köln ein Kurzfilmprogramm. Nach der analogen 16-mm-Vorführung folgt ein Gespräch und eine Diskussion mit dem Publikum.
Der zweitägige Workshop von Samstag (08.11., 10:00–17:30 Uhr) bis Sonntag (09.11., 10:00–17:00 Uhr) im EYE GOT SPACE Köln steht unter dem Titel “Subverting the Image” – Ein Workshop über Verweigerung im analogen Film.
Wir bewegen uns mit erhöhter Geschwindigkeit auf einen Zustand unendlicher Bilder zu, in dem enorme Mengen an Energie und Aufmerksamkeit darauf verwendet werden, eine Spiegelwelt zu konstruieren, die unsere eigene materielle Realität übereignen soll. Aber in einer endlichen Welt hat das Streben nach dieser simulierten Unendlichkeit seinen Preis: den Verlust von Bedeutung und den Zusammenbruch der Welt, in der wir leben. Ertrinkend in dieser Flut von Bildern ist es vielleicht an der Zeit, unsere Beziehung zu ihnen zu überdenken. Dieser Workshop lädt Filmemacher*innen und Künstler*innen ein, Strategien der Subversion zu erforschen – Methoden, um innerhalb der Sprache des Films gegen das Bild zu arbeiten. Gemeinsam werden wir uns mit einer Reihe experimenteller Praktiken beschäftigen, die darauf abzielen, das Bild zu zerstören, seine Macht zu reduzieren oder es vollständig zu verdrängen. Die Teilnehmer*innen arbeiten mit 16-mm-Found-Footage, schwarzem und klarem Vorspann und erforschen das Löschen als Geste des Widerstands und Text als Werkzeug zum Wiederaufbau von Bildern. Die Teilnahme am Workshop ist kostenlos, aufgrund der begrenzten Teilnehmerzahl ist jedoch eine Anmeldung erforderlich.

Bitte beachtet, dass die Teilnahme an beiden Tagen Voraussetzung für die Anmeldung ist. Die Vergabe der Plätze erfolgt nach dem Prinzip „first come, first served“ mit Warteliste.
OPEN PROJECTOR NIGHT UND END-OF-YEAR PARTY
Am 30. November wollen wir gemeinsam mit euch auf das Ende des Jahres und die vielen spannenden Workshops, Screenings und Begegnungen anstoßen. Hierzu laden wir ab 18 Uhr zu einem Get-together im Filmhaus Köln ein. Im Anschluss, ab 20 Uhr, starten wir mit einer Open Projector Night im Filmhaus Kino. Hier kann jede/r von euch eigene Filme mitbringen und vorführen. Einzige Vorgabe: Nur Filme gedreht auf analogem Film (im besten Fall sogar analog projizierbar). Im Zuge der Open Projector Night wollen wir außerdem alle in Workshops entstandenen Filme mit euch teilen!

RECAP – FILM AUF FILM: HRVOJE SPUDIĆ
On the weekend of September 13–14, we had the pleasure of welcoming Croatian artist Hrvoje Spudić to Cologne. During a two-day workshop at Kulturbunker Köln-Mülheim, we explored the world of optical sound and its connection to analogue 16mm film. A highlight of the workshop was the demonstration of a self-built device capable of recording optical sound directly onto 16mm film.

Parallel to the workshop, Spudić’s installation Rotoprojector 2 was exhibited at Kulturbunker. As part of the exhibition’s opening, he presented a sound performance based on the DIY reproduction of optical sound using analogue film.

OJOBOCA is a Berlin-based artist duo formed by Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy. Their work is rooted in an exploration of cinema as a social ritual and as a tool for generating collective experience. They call their practice Orrorism, which they define as a simulated method of inner and outer transformation. Since 2010, OJOBOCA has created a series of experimental films, installations, and performances that have been screened at film festivals and art venues worldwide, among them the Museum of the Moving Image, ICA London, Anthology Film Archives, Berlinale, International Film Festival Rotterdam, and New York Film Festival. Their work is also known for its innovative use of analog film techniques, which they continue to develop as members of the artist-run film lab, LaborBerlin.
On Friday, 07.11. (8:30 p.m.), at Filmhaus Köln, OJOBOCA will present a curated program of some of their short films. The analog 16mm screening will be followed by a talk and discussion with the audience.
The two-day workshop from Saturday, 08.11. (10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) to Sunday 09.11. (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), at EYE GOT SPACE Köln, is going to be defined by the title: Subverting the image – A Workshop on Refusal in Analog Film.
We are rapidly entering a state of infinite images, where vast amounts of energy and attention are being devoted to constructing a mirror world that is intended to surpass our own material reality. But in a finite world, striving toward this simulated infinity comes at a cost: the erosion of meaning and the collapse of the very world we inhabit. Drowning in this deluge of images, perhaps it is time to reconsider our relationship with them. This workshop invites filmmakers and artists to explore strategies of subversion —methods of working against the image from within the language of film.
Together, we will engage with a range of experimental practices that seek to unmake the image, reduce its power, or displace it entirely. Participants will work with 16mm found footage, black and clear leader, and explore erasure as a gesture of resistance and text as a tool for rebuilding images.

The two-day workshop is free of charge, but registration is required due to the limited number of places. You can register by email to info@filmauffilm.de until October 31. Please note that participation on both days is a requirement for your registration. Registration is on a “first-come, first-served” basis with a waiting list.
OPEN PROJECTOR NIGHT AND END-OF-YEAR PARTY
On November 30, we would like to celebrate the end of the year with you — and toast to many inspiring workshops, screenings, and encounters! We invite you to join us for a get-together from 6:00 p.m. at Filmhaus Köln. Afterwards, starting at 8:00 p.m., we’ll begin our Open Projector Night in the Filmhaus cinema. Everyone is welcome to bring their own films to screen. Please keep in mind: Only films that are shot on analog material (if possible even to be projected analog). As part of the evening, we will also present all the films created during this year’s workshops!
