Sunday 18th of January 2026, 7:30 p.m. | Film auf Film: Ted Fendt | Film programme | Filmhaus Cinema

Ted Fendt’s minimalist feature films can be characterised by their nuanced observations of interpersonal interactions and their laconic staging. His works follow the everyday rhythm of their protagonists, whose inner states can sometimes remain elusive, that reveal with subtle humour their situation caught somewhere between restriction and self-determination. The focus is on those small, fleeting moments that narrative cinema usually does not take the time to expose. read more

Film auf Film: OJOBOCA – Workshop “Subverting the image“

Saturday and Sunday, 08.-09.11., 10 a.m. – 5/5:30 p.m. | Workshop “Subverting the image“| EYE GOT SPACE Köln | Free of charge | Limited Places | Registration via info@filmauffilm.de until 31st of October

The two-day workshop from Saturday, 08.11. (10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) to Sunday 09.11. (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), at EYE GOT SPACE Köln, is going to be defined by the title: Subverting the image – A Workshop on Refusal in Analog Film.

We are rapidly entering a state of infinite images, where vast amounts of energy and attention are being devoted to constructing a mirror world that is intended to surpass our own material reality. But in a finite world, striving toward this simulated infinity comes at a cost: the erosion of meaning and the collapse of the very world we inhabit. Drowning in this deluge of images, perhaps it is time to reconsider our relationship with them. This workshop invites filmmakers and artists to explore strategies of subversion —methods of working against the image from within the language of film. read more

This hands-on workshop explores the world of optical sound and its connection to 16mm analog film. We’ll begin with the fundamentals of sound as vibrations through air and examine how these can be translated into light signals – and back again. From the eerie tones of incandescent lightbulbs and stroboscopic rhythms to tonewheels and DIY light organs, participants will experiment with analog techniques that reveal the deep relationship between seeing and hearing. The workshop concludes with a demonstration of a custom-built device capable of recording optical sound directly onto 16mm film. Open to anyone interested in the technical and material intersections of sound and image. read more

One of his works is the ‘Rotoprojector’, a device that adds an extra spatial dimension to images via the rotation of the projection device. Spudić describes it as follows: ‘The Rotoprojector is a research project that deals with the transformation of a film projection into physical space, using mechanical means and physiological phenomena of afterimages and persistence of vision.’ Besides the ‘Rotoprojector’, Hrvoje will present a sound performance that is based on DIY optical sound reproduction working with analogue film. read more

    Film on film: Viktoria Schmid

The layering of these three levels of time, contained on this one film, the distillation of time, a new temporal level that doesn’t exist beyond film, that’s something that keeps me going,” says Viktoria Schmid in conversation with Michelle Koch about her critically acclaimed short film NYC RGB. The graduate of Vienna’s Friedl Kubelka School for Independent Film works at the interface between art and film. Her works focus on the dialectical basic elements of the medium: the relationships between space and time, light and shadow as well as movement and standstill areat the disposal of a renewed, profound consideration.

Viktoria Schmid was born in Neuhofen/Ybbs (Austria) in 1986 and is one of the founding members of the Artist-Run Film Lab filmkoop wien. Her films have been presented at renowned film festivals in Toronto, Rotterdam and Marseille, among others. Their artistic works were recently shown at Vienna’s Museum of Contemporary Art Belvedere 21. The open-air film program begins at sunset (approximately 10pm) and will be projected both analog and digitally. The discussion with the filmmaker provides an opportunity to reflect on the artistic processes and underlying considerations. The audience is cordially invited to come to the Simultanhalle at 8pm and experience the sunset together.

The two-day workshop offers beginners the chance to gain their first experience with the 16mm Bolex camera and learn photographic cyanotype techniques. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required due to the limited number of places – by Friday, June 6, by e-mail to info@filmauffilm.de

With the kind support and as a guest on the premises of the Förderverein Simultanhalle. The quarterly event series FILM AUF FILM can take place thanks to the support of Stiftung Kulturwerk der VG Bild Kunst, Kulturamt der Stadt Köln and Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. read more
